Talkeetna Community Radio’s annual membership meeting was held Sunday. KTNA is celebrating 20 years on the air, so the forty-plus attendees were treated to supper, a birthday cake, a slide show, and reminiscing from the early days of the corporation. Jim Sykes told stories about the several years of securing funding, and the engineering and volunteer work that happened before the station went on the air. He spoke of many other community members who were instrumental in that process. Former station manager Julianne McGuinness and former station engineer Michael Vaughan also attended the meeting.
Several awards were presented to volunteers at the gathering. This year’s Foundation Award was presented to former Board of Directors chair, news host, and Exile on 2nd Street host Maureen McLaughlin. The Above and Beyond award went to Stardate Susitna host and producer Kathleen Fleming, for 20 years of information on the night sky, and a KTNA Productions award went to Charlie and Tevere Loeb for their multimedia work on the children’s program, Storynory and Mory. Decade awards this year went to Oldies and Trivia Show host Terry Barber, and The Mixing Hour host Fernando Salvador.
KTNA members submitted 81 ballots in the Board of Directors election. Sue Deyoe retained her position on the board, and will be joined by Kim Hutchings.
