Larry DeVilbiss is officially the new mayor of the Mat-Su Borough

Larry DeVilbiss officially became the new mayor for the Mat-Su Borough when he took the oath of office last Friday at the Assembly chambers in Palmer. In a special election held in early January, DeVilbiss managed to receive 3,964 votes. The runner-up candidate Brian Sullivan received 2,616 votes.

DeVilbiss will serve a partial term in office until October 2012 because the former mayor Talis Colberg resigned when he took a job with the Mat-Su College.

With the mayor’s position filled, the Mat-Su borough is still looking for a borough manager to run day-to-day affairs.

The assembly decided a few months ago to put a search firm in charge of  finding a new borough manager. The decision came after the assembly did their own search and identified a top candidate who reconsidered, and didn’t accept the borough’s offer.

The search firm has received a list of 50 interested candidates and whittled it down to a few. The assembly in their next special meeting on Tuesday will narrow it down even further.
