A combination of local and state firefighters mopped up a three-acre fire in Caswell on Saturday.
The fire was burning along an airstrip currently under construction. The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center map shows the fire on the north shore of a small lake east of Fishermans Hop Road.
According to the Alaska Division of Forestry, local departments, in combination with the Mat-Su Helitack crew and helicopter, Division of Forestry Firefighters, and the Gannett Glacier Fire Crew worked together to stop the spread of the Caswell Lakes Fire on Friday evening. The last report on the state dashboard shows the fire as contained.
Late last week, the Alaska Division of Forestry issued a burn permit suspension for the Mat-Su Borough. The suspension applies to both large and small-scale permits, including burn barrels.
