Low Risk of Flooding on Talkeetna and Susitna, says Borough Coordinator

Despite a rainy start to the week, and a riverfront park at the end of Talkeetna’s Main Street that is looking more like a lagoon, the Borough’s emergency manager Casey Cook says they do not anticipate seeing any flooding at this point in the Northern Valley.

Cook has a team that checks the river gauge height information provided by the national weather service, and so far this month the only river that Cook says warrants concern is the Skwentna river, which at a current height of 41 feet, is only a foot below flood stage.

If conditions change, Cook says residents who observe water levels that threaten property should call 911. From there, the Fire department will determine whether flood conditions exist, and steps can then be taken to mitigate high water.
