Stephen Foster has been charged with burglary, multiple thefts, vehicle theft and criminal mischief in the case of stolen firefighter property on August 17th. The thefts were discovered when firefighters from the Susitna and Mat Su Valley area returned from fires near Fairbanks. The Forestry building served as a parking and storage facility for the firefighters. Five vehicles were stolen and a number of personal and state-owned items were stolen and vandalized.
One by one, the stolen vehicles have turned up. Two men on the Kenai were pulled over in a vehicle that turned out to be one of the missing trucks from the lot. Another vehicle turned up close to the Forestry property. Shoeprints and fingerprints were collected from the vehicle. A third vehicle showed up when the driver was arrested for driving under the influence and driving with a revoked license.
Trooper spokeswoman, Megan Peters, says there is a long tangled web within the investigation, with a number of people involved and eventually it will all get sorted out. Troopers are still waiting for some evidence information. She says a lot of stolen property has been recovered and returned to the owners, but the investigation is far from over.
Foster appeared in Judge Eric Smith’s court in Palmer Monday to face his charges.
