Icy road conditions this morning led to a single car accident at the Talkeetna Spur Road near Fish Lake.A white truck driving southbound hit ice on the road, crossed the northbound lane went into the ditch and came to rest upside down on the east side of the road. The driver Andrew Farago, 41, was injured. Trooper dispatch received the call at 7:44 a.m. According to troopers, the Talkeetna Ambulance Department responded and took the driver to the Mat-Su Regional hospital with a possible broken arm. Troopers say Farago was alone in the truck.
Trooper Sergeant Troy Shuey said that speed not adjusted to the road conditions was a factor in the accident. Shuey appealed to drivers to go slow. He said that even though the speed limit signs say 55 mph on the Spur road, roads in wet and icy conditions are not safe enough to go that fast. The same holds true for the Parks Highway where the speed limit is 65 mph, but drivers should slow down when road conditions are hazardous.
