Man survives cabin fire in Trapper Creek

A fire destroyed a small cabin in Trapper Creek, but the sole inhabitant Freddy Brockman managed to escape the flames. According to the Red Cross, Brockman woke up to his foot burning and was treated at the Sunshine Community clinic and released.The cause of the fire is unknown and the cabin is a total loss. The cabin was located off Bradley Road in an area known as Trapper Creek trails.

Trapper Creek is outside the fire service area and neither Trapper Creek ambulance nor the Talkeetna fire department learned of the fire after the fact. The Red Cross responded to calls for help by Brockman’s mother. Local Red Cross volunteers Mark Smith and Shane Starrett responded to assist Brockman. The Red Cross provided food, clothing and shoes. Brockman is now staying with a family member in Wasilla.
