Mat-Su Assembly Considers State Funding Priorities, Grant Application for Talkeetna Sewer and Water

One of the resolutions lays out the borough’s policy and funding priorities, which will be forwarded to the state legislature. The resolution lists matching funds for the road bond package passed in October, the Bogard and Engstrom Road intersection, and the Port Mackenzie rail extension. In addition to transportation infrastructure, the priority list includes state funding for the Willow Public Library.

In addition, the borough intends to apply to the state community development block grant program on behalf of the Talkeetna Sewer and Water System. A total of twelve projects were presented for the application, but borough staff determined that the sewer and water system would fare best in the competitive grant process. Part of that reasoning comes from more than $800,000 in sales tax revenue generated to fund repairs and upgrades to the system this year. The borough is asking for the maximum grant amount of $850,000.
