Mat Su Borough Assembly meets Tuesday

aired mon -The Mat Su Borough Assembly has more than a plateful at their next meeting tomorrow night.

They will be holding the final public hearing on the gravel ordinance, which has been under discussion for several years.  The ordinance has had input along the way from the gravel industry, from state agencies and others concerned with mining below the water table and the future of gravel extraction inside the Mat Su Borough boundaries.  A number of homeowners had concerns with ground water, and extraction companies in the lower valley, and asked Borough Assembly members to have Borough staff  work on an ordinance that would address concerns.  The ordinance has faced several public hearings at different levels.

Another plan, which will have a final public hearing, is the Natural Resource Management Units plan.  Land and resource manager Debby Broneske  said a month ago that she sees the plan passing without any more amendments since the planning commission has already addressed concerns that they, and others, had with the plan.

The Assembly will vote on the special mayoral election scheduled for January 11^th that appropriates ten thousand dollars from the fiscal year 2011 operating budget to elect a new borough mayor….AND,  the Talkeetna sewer and water utility is set to receive $30,000 to be used to implement a control system for 3 of its lift stations.

The Borough Assembly meets every first and third Tuesday of the month at 6 pm in Palmer.  Public hearings start at 7 pm.
