With a little more than a week left in the fourth phase of the Mat-Su Borough’s small business and non-profit grants, more than seven-and-a-half million dollars has been awarded.
In total, the program was allocated more than thirteen million dollars in funding from the federal CARES Act. Funding was also set aside for some borough expenses due to the pandemic as well as an individual grant program.
Small business and nonprofit grants max out at $25,000 or twenty percent of last year’s gross revenue, whichever is lower.
In total, just under 650 applications have been filed for the grant program. To qualify, a business or nonprofit must be based in the borough but outside of any of the incorporated cities. It must also have an active borough and state business license and provide some tax documentation as well as estimates of lost revenue and/or additional costs.
The individual grant program, which will award up to $100 to borough residents to cover additional costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected to start soon, but there is not currently a date posted on the borough’s CARES Act site.
