Mat-Su Borough launches online map to stay up-to-date on business and service closures

As COVID-19 continues to spread, the status of services and business openings in the Mat-Su Borough changes from day to day.  To help keep track of the changes the borough has launched an online map.  In an interview with Big Cabbage Radio in Palmer, Mat-Su Borough IT Director Eric Wyatt describes how to find it.

“If you go to the borough website and click the Coronavirus page…click on the link there of the dashboard of the ‘Essential Services Location Map,’ and you can find your favorite business there in the list, if they’ve already reported.  You click the link there, and it will show you the status.”

Many businesses in the borough, including some in the Northern Valley, have already added their statuses to the map.

Another area where the borough is offering assistance is with internet connectivity.  Eric Wyatt says that, while buildings like public libraries, borough offices, and sports facilities are closed, the WiFi at those locations is still on and accessible from the parking lot for those who need an internet connection.

With confirmed cases in the Mat-Su, one question on many minds is where those cases are.  Eric Wyatt says any information on cases will come from the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, and that information is not currently part of the borough’s map.

In addition to the map, KTNA is maintaining a list of local businesses and their current status.
