Time is ticking down for MEA customers to fill out ballots and return them in time to be counted Monday for the 2011 election.
There are 8 suggested changes to the bylaws and Board of Directors election on the ballot. The one drawing the most attention is Proposition number 7 which will allow for a ‘utility bill round up’. It would establish a program in which members would have their bills rounded up to the nearest dollar and the change would go to an area charity. All members would initially be part of the program but could withdraw from the program at any time.
Proposition 8 would require more time for by law change consideration. The Bylaws committee would make recommendations to the Board of Directors 5 days prior to the January meeting of the Board. The result would hopefully allow time for more consideration by the Board.
Other ballot propositions are corrections in the bylaws regarding drug testing results for elected officials, campaign disclosure language and notice of board meetings that require more notice.
Two seats are open this election. Both Janet Kincaid and Peter Burchell are the incumbents. Bill Folsom has thrown his hat in the ring to be considered for the board.
Residents that are MEA Co-op members should have received their election packet by mail. More information can be found on the MEA website at mea dot coop. (www.mea.coop)
