MEA rate hike planned for October
The Matanuska Electric Association Board of Directors unanimously voted to authorize an increase in base rates effective this fall.

An increase of 1.46 % will take place the first week of October, pending approval from the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.
Spokeswoman Lorali Carter said in a press release that the average MEA consumer uses just under 800 kilowatt hours of electricity per month. The consumers can expect to see a monthly increase of about $1.12 as a result of the base rate adjustment.
Approval of the increase came during the regular monthly meeting of the MEA Board of Directors last week.
