Veterans are now honored on the Memorial Wall at Trapper Creek Memorial Cemetery. Of the 240 people on the wall, 55 are veterans. Though dedicated on May 30, 2021, the Memorial Wall was proposed in 2006. The original concept for the wall was designed by Tammy Morrill and was built by Kevin Connolly and Kelly Thompson. The burled logs and gabled roof are reminiscent of the Trapper Creek building style and are a fitting memorial for the area.
The community began gathering names and information for the wall in 2006 and held them until it could be built. The group has also been collecting oral histories and will release those stories when they are complete.
According to Trapper Creek Community Services Association representatives, the community was established in 1959. The group searched back to 1953, knowing that some residents arrived before its official establishment. Because the community is so young, they were “able to honor all the folks that have lived in Trapper Creek at one time or another.”
The cemetery was plotted in 1992 and now those interred are also listed on the wall.
On this Veteran’s Day, the Memorial Wall will be standing, honoring all the veterans who lived in, contributed to the history, and were part of the Trapper Creek community. The TCCSA will add more names to the wall next May.
