Meters are on the way for Talkeetna Water Customers

Talkeetna Water and Sewer utility customers have been asked to respond to the Borough’s request for access to their homes and businesses for the installation of water meters. The water meters will be installed on every service line in the Water Utility, and could begin as soon as May

Public Works Project Manager Jeff Walden is in charge of the project, and says the Borough has been charged with installing meters, using money left over from a USDA grant.

Walden says the meters are the size of two softballs put together, and they can be monitored remotely, so access to property won’t be necessary after they are installed. The meters will need to be installed indoors to keep from freezing he says

As Walden has said, one main reason for the meter installation is to check for leaks, and to make sure the utility isn’t saturating the ground with an un-monitored leak. The meters will likely also be used for billing, although how that will work is as-yet unkown.
