Military helicopter crash in Talkeetna injures two soldiers

On Sunday afternoon, a U.S. Army helicopter crashed during a training flight at the Talkeetna State Airport.

According to John Pennell, Media Relations Chief for U.S. Army Alaska, the Apache helicopter was part of the 25^th Attack Battalion based out of Fort Wainwright. Four helicopters were traveling from Fort Wainwright to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and had stopped in Talkeetna to refuel.  The crash occurred when the helicopters were taking off to resume their flight to Anchorage.

Two soldiers were injured in the crash.  One was taken by ground ambulance and the other was flown from the scene by helicopter for medical treatment. In a statement Monday afternoon, Pennell says both soldiers were treated and released from the hospital.

Pennell says the crash is being investigated by the Army Combat Readiness Center. The investigation team is expected to arrive later this week.
