New cell tower on Spur Road to be operational by year's end

The Cellular tower erected off of Pow Wow road near the Talkeetna Spur Road is expected to be operational by the end of the year, according to AT&T Spokesman Andy Colley. The tower will provide new 3G coverage south of Talkeetna from Talkeetna Lakes to Fish Lake. The project had been delayed by permitting for the tower, which was conceived before the Mat Su Borough Assembly eliminated regulations on tall towers. The physical tower itself has been in place since this summer, but AT&T hasn’t been able to bring it online yet.
