A new Merry-Go-Round will soon be installed at the Trapper Creek Community Park as a first step to upgrade the playground. A $5,000 grant from the Talkeetna Bachelor Society and a $500 donation from Alaska Representative Kevin McCabe funded the new equipment. That’s according to Becky Badillo, a Director serving on the Trapper Creek Community Services Association Board, the group that manages the park.
Badillo says the TCCSA will pick up the equipment this Wednesday. But the group needs to do some concrete prep work before the new equipment can be installed. They will likely ask for volunteers to help, but she says they haven’t picked out a work day yet.
The playground upgrade has been on the community’s wishlist for many years, but the cost has always been more than the group could afford on its own. About 20 years ago, volunteers installed monkey bars and some other equipment, which is still in place. Badillo has big dreams for the park. The next piece of equipment that’s been requested from the community is a swingset. But Badillo also wants to see the park being used for sports like basketball, as well as picnics and family gatherings.
Badillo says this is just the first step to improving Trapper Creek Community Park as a play space.
