The Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce’s comprehensive map project is finally coming to fruition. Last year, entrepreneur Tim Costello donated 65 hundred dollars to the Chamber specifically for a village and trail map project.
A committee was formed to undertake the project of updating the Talkeetna map that was outdated with old businesses no longer in service. New trails, such as XY Lakes, were also seen by the Chamber as needing highlighted on a new map.
Gale Moses, one of those that took the project under her wing, announced at Thursday night’s Chamber meeting that Beacon Publishing had been chosen as the company to design and print the map. The comprehensive map will list Chamber of Commerce members and websites and highlight walking and hiking trails in and around Talkeetna as well as area businesses.
Moses predicts the map will be available for distribution in May at the start of tourist season. A rough draft will available in early April.
