Non-Resident landowners could soon have a voice in Community Councils

Borough Mayor Larry DeVilbiss has submitted an ordinance that, if passed, would make it possible for non-resident property owners and commercial land-owners to have a membership in area Community Councils.

The ordinance states that people who own property and pay taxes should be allowed a voice in the local decisions in planning and land use. The ordinance also says that non-resident or commercial landowners deserve a say in Community Council activities because the Councils in turn report to the Borough.

Community Council membership is currently open to residents living within the council boundaries, and specifically excludes non-resident landowners. The ordinance will be introduced and hearings will be scheduled at a future Assembly meeting.
