There is up to a foot-and-a-half of snow in the forecast for the Northern Valley through Tuesday. The current weather system has prompted a winter storm warning from the National Weather Service Forecast office in Anchorage.
It comes just a week after another significant storm dropped more than a foot of snow. According to the National Weather Service snow gauge at Su Valley Junior-Senior High School, there had been nearly seventeen inches of new snow over the course of a week before the current storm.
The current snow depth at Su Valley as of Monday afternoon was just short of four feet. In the twenty years with available historic data for the gauge, the deepest snow cover at the school was in March of 2020 at just below five feet. Average maximum snow depth at Su Valley is just under two-and-a-half feet.
There is also a National Weather Service snow gauge at Question Lake, but it has not reported data since the end of last week.
Information on preparing for winter storms is available at ready.gov.
