NSI introduced to Talkeetna Community Council

A new non profit was introduced at the Talkeetna Community Council meeting Monday evening.

Although the Northern Susitna Institute has been in existence since the mid 90s, the organization has formally become a 501 c 3 and has absorbed several smaller organizations. Incorporating with the Institute is the ‘Classroom With a View’ organization, Su Valley’s Build A Plane project and CEAL – the Career Exploration and Applied Learning academy.  All organizations are education-experience based.

Joe Page introduced the Institute and its mission to the council.  He said the organization wants to enhance experiential education and connect area students to the many talented people in the community.

Tia Schumacher, the director of Classroom With a View, introduced herself as someone new to the community and spoke about the organization’s programs and asked the council to send interested students her way.

NSI provides students the opportunity to learn and develop life skills through experience based academic programs and workshops.  The group works to foster community partnerships.

Page told the council they would be hearing more about programs in the near future.
