A proposed Mat Su Borough ordinance addressing how the School Board members are elected has failed.

The ordinance would have asked Mat Su Borough voters this fall if school board members should be chosen by district, the same way that Assembly members are chosen.  There would be 7 areas, just like the Borough Assembly, and each school board member would represent their respective district.

The Assembly debated the question Tuesday evening before voting down the ordinance in a split vote.

Currently the Mat Su School District Board of Directors is chosen borough wide and every voter choses the entire board.  The Borough Assembly is chosen by district and only voters from that district vote for their candidate.

The method of School board selection will stay as it is currently and there will be one less question on ballot measures this fall.
