Susitna River Coalition Speaker Event
The Susitna River Coalition is hosting a winter speaker series event Thursday, February 27th at 6PM. The topic is Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). This process has been used for decades to capture CO₂ from smokestacks and inject it underground, yet it has not lived up to expectations. Erin McKittrick, a data analyst, writer, and wilderness adventurer from Seldovia, Alaska, will present on how CCS works, its limitations, and the risks of relying on it for climate solutions. Workshop Possibility
Susitna River Coalition is gauging interest for a timber grading workshop with the Department of Natural Resources for the Upper Susitna Valley. Please contact margaret@susitnarivercoalition.org if interested in attending to learn about this free, one day training. If there is enough interest, this workshop could be hosted in the area.
Susitna River Coalition’s Winter Speaker Event
Sheldon Community Arts HangarThe Susitna River Coalition's final Winter Speaker Event of the season will be in person on Thursday, April 17th at 6PM at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. The event will cover the history of gold mining in Cache Creek and ongoing efforts to restore salmon habitat in the area. 4th Annual Plants for Salmon
The Susitna River Coalition and partners host the 4th Annual Plants for Salmon. All are invited to plant native vegetation to restore salmon habitat on Saturday, June 14, from 10am to 2pm at the Yoder Road bridge on Montana Creek. There will be kids’ activities, fly casting demos, and food. Tools are provided; bring gloves and sturdy shoes if possible. Wild Salmon Weekend
The Susitna River Coalition (or SRC) invites the public to a Wild Salmon Weekend celebration in Talkeetna.
- On Saturday, August 9, SRC has arranged for a guided Riverside Nature Hike. Meet at the river area at the end of Main Street at 10am. That evening, at 6 pm, at the Denali Education Center, there is a screening of film The Super Salmon with a community conversation.
- The Susitna River Coalition and Denali National Park and Preserve are hosting Talkeetna Trail Days on Sunday, August 10th. The volunteer event will take place from 10am to 2 pm along the Talkeetna riverfront and Chase Trail. Volunteers will meet in front of the Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station at 2241 South B Street. Tools and safety gear will be provided.
- Sunday evening from 5 to 8pm there will be a Wild Salmon Celebration featuring food, community screen printing, and an oral history booth at the Sheldon Community Arts Center.

Denali Brewing CompanyThe 9th Annual Wild Su Feast is scheduled for Sunday, October 5, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Denali Brewing Company, located at Mile 2 of the Talkeetna Spur Road. The event, hosted by the Susitna River Coalition, features a community potluck and cooking competition with foods that walked, swam, flew, or grew in the Susitna Watershed. From Glacier to Sea: A Journey Down the Susitna – Susitna River Coalition
The Susitna River Coalition is hosting their first winter speaker event of the season on November 5th at 6PM on Zoom and Facebook Live.
Researcher and adventurer Chris Dunn presents his 2012 expedition - the first known traverse of the Susitna River, traveling more than 310 miles from its glaciated headwaters in the Alaska Range to Cook Inlet. The expedition documented the river as a connected system from source to sea.

Upper Susitna Community and Senior CenterThe Susitna River Coalition is working in partnership with Alaska Safe Riders to host a Backcountry & Ice Travel Safety Presentation on Tuesday, December 9th at 6pm at the Upper Susitna Senior Center. This is an educational presentation on safe travel in backcountry and ice conditions for snowmachines. The session will include information on recognizing signs of weak or unsafe ice, recommended safety equipment, and response steps in the event of a breakthrough. Documentary Film Screening – Susitna River Coalition
Talkeetna RoadhouseOn Wednesday, December 10th from 6-9PM, the Susitna River Coalition is hosting an evening of film and community conversation at the Talkeetna Roadhouse. This year’s feature is Blue Heart, Patagonia’s documentary about the last wild rivers of the Balkans and the grassroots efforts to protect them from large hydropower development. Following the short film, SRC will share a presentation and updates on current projects and a look ahead to 2026. Snacks and drinks will be available. All are welcome to attend.
