  • Summer Reading Program – Talkeetna Public Library

    Storytime at the Talkeetna Public Library for ages 0 to 7 this week starts at 11am. The theme is Stories and Nature, and the kids will be walking the Literary Trail. At noon, Lunch on the Lawn for ages 0 to 18 is provided by the Upper Susitna Food Pantry. Weekly food bags will be available as well. Summer Reading Program begins promptly at 1pm. There will be a guided walk at the Talkeetna Lakes Park. The summer reading incentive program is open to all ages, including adult. You can sign up at the front desk.

    The Talkeetna Public Library's Summer Reading Program is on Thursdays. This Thursday has the following activities.

    Storytime begins at 11am with a program by Alaska Wildbird Rehabilitation group. After Lunch on the Lawn, there will be another bird from the Wildbirds group beginning at 12:45. Following that, all are welcome to stay and have fun with Sharon and her amazing bioluminescent dinoflagellates!

    The Talkeetna Public Library's Summer Reading Program is on Thursdays until August 7th, with the following activities:

    • Storytime for ages 0-7 begins 11am with a snack, stories, and a craft. The theme this week is Rock Painting and the kids will begin to make a William Snakespeare rock sculpture.
    • Lunch on the Lawn for all ages up to 18 is at 12pm.
    • The Summer Reading Program for all ages begins at 1pm. Elaborate rock painting is the activity, and the kids will have a chance to add to the rock-snake sculpture.
    • Reading logs may be turned in at the front desk on Thursdays.

    The Talkeetna Public Library's Summer Reading Program is at 1pm today (Thursday). This week Solstice Rescue Dogs will be at the library with dogs that are specially trained to rescue people from danger. There are three more weeks of activities and reading incentives, all ages are welcome to attend.     The Talkeetna Public Library's Summer Reading Program is on Thursdays

    • Today the Summer Reading Program begins at 1pm. This week’s theme is Fairy Houses and Woodland Dwellings. Also, the library is creating a rock snake named William Snakespeare. Supplies for rock painting are available to use in the building or to borrow to make a snake segment at home. Bring your segments in to get varnished and added to the sculpture.
    • Weekly meal backpacks, provided by Upper Susitna Food Pantry, are available at the front desk on Thursday afternoons until Saturday, or when supplies run out. These backpacks are available for children under 18 years of age to take home.

    The Talkeetna Public Library's Summer Reading Program begins at 1pm today (Thursday). This week, Geologist Greg will be showing his new rock polisher and also talking about volcanoes. All are welcome to come and blow up a small volcano. The final day of the program is next week on August 7th.     The Talkeetna Public Library presents the program Unleash the Power of Your Library Card on Saturday, January 24, from 2-4pm. Participants will learn how to access Alaska and national newspapers, renew library items and put things on hold, and access digital and audio books and magazines for free using the Libby App. A current library card is required which can be obtained at the front desk as needed.     The Talkeetna Public Library hosts the Teen Book to Movie program this Saturday, January 24th, from 6 to 8pm. The program features The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. This is the prequel story of the Hunger Games series. Teens 13 to 18 are invited for pizza and snacks and lively discussion on the book and its movie.
