A 43-year-old man has died of a drug overdose in the Northern Susitna Valley. Alaska State Troopers responded to the call of a drug overdose shortly before 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening near Mile 99 of the Parks Highway. Emergency responders performed CPR for more than thirty minutes and administered Narcan. The man, who has not been identified as of Thursday afternoon, was declared deceased on the scene, and next-of-kin was notified.
The overdose death comes about two weeks after Troopers issued an alert for narcotics containing fentanyl circulating in the Mat-Su.
Narcan, a drug used to treat overdoses, is available through non-profit organizations throughout the state. In the Northern Susitna Valley, those include Sunshine Community Health Center and Denali Education Center. Those kits also contain fentanyl test strips.
