The Mat Su School District has named Deena Paramo the new superintendent of schools for the district. Dr. Kenneth Burnley died suddenly on July 2nd and left a large void that the school board needed to fill.
The board met Thursday evening to discuss the steps in filling the open position.
Board member Lynn Gattis says that the unanimous vote was not contentious during discussion. Gattis says Paramo has the experience with the district and has been on board with Dr. Burnley for the entire school year. She says it’s a chance for the home girl to shine and it seemed a perfect fit. She says time will tell.
The contract is not yet signed but the board has taken the first steps in negiotation and the contract will most likely be approved July 18th at the regular meeting of the board.
41 year old Paramo has been an educator in Alaska for 20 years and in the Mat Su since 1993.
