Parks Highway crash sends man to Providence in critical condition

A vehicle collision on the Parks Highway near mile 50 Sunday night sent one man by life flight to the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers found that 61 year old Robert Andres of Wasilla was driving northbound on the Parks Highway around 5:30 and attempted to make a left hand turn.  He was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Craig Stacks of Palmer.  Trooper investigation showed that Stacks was intoxicated.

The crash sent Andres’ vehicle into the ditch facing south.  Andres was transported via life ambulance to Providence with serious injuries.  Stacks was transported to Mat Su Regional with non-life threatening injuries, and after his release, booked at Mat Su Pre Trial on charges of Assault and Driving Under the Influence.

The accident slowed traffic to a near halt for over 2 hours as southbound and northbound traffic was diverted to the gravel side road, Marigold Drive, as troopers investigated the accident.

Both vehicles were totaled and transported to an impound lot.  Andres remains in critical condition at Providence
