March 31 marks the deadline for Alaskans to file for their 2010 Permanent Fund Dividend. The state Department of Revenue expects that they will receive 50,000 more applications online in the closing week of the filing period. The PFD division alerts Macintosh computer users that they won’t be able to process their 2010 PFD application if they use web browser Safari. The division recommends Mac users to switch to the application Firefox.
If filing online, Alaskans are also able to donate portions of their PFD to Alaskan charitable organizations. So far, 63 pledges have been made to four Talkeetna non-profit organizations. Participating in the so-called Pick.Click.Give program are the Denali Arts Council, the Sunshine Community Health Center, the Jessica Stevens Community Foundation and Talkeetna Community Radio.
Although the Jessica Stevens Community Foundation is benefiting the upper Susitna Valley, it is not found with a search for Talkeetna organizations because their fund is an affiliate of an Anchorage-based statewide community foundation. Look for it in the alphabetical listing.
As of this week, more than eleven-thousand donations have been pledged statewide.
When the PFD filing period opened in early January, technical problems prevented online filers from donating to Pick.Click.Give. The PFD division agreed to let Alaskans go back to their online filings and to enter their pledges between April 5 and May 31.
