A Wasilla man has been identified as the pilot who died in a plane crash on Wednesday.
According to the Alaska State Troopers, 56-year-old James Poelman was the pilot and only occupant of a Cessna 207 that crashed near the mouth of the Susitna River after a midair collision just after noon on Wednesday.
The other plane involved in the collision suffered damage to its landing gear, but its pilot, Bruce Markwood of Anchorage, was able to make an emergency landing on an airstrip at Lake Hood in Anchorage. Markwood is described as being in good condition following the collision.
Investigation in the cause of the crash is ongoing.
