Planning Commission Fails Proposed Large-Lot Districts
At their meeting this week, the Mat-Su Borough Planning Commission unanimously failed an ordinance that would create large-lot subdivision restrictions anywhere in the Borough if communities chose to have them.
At their meeting this week, the Mat-Su Borough Planning Commission unanimously failed an ordinance that would create large-lot subdivision restrictions anywhere in the Borough if communities chose to have them. The legislation was proposed by District 1 Assemblymember Tim Hale.
Several members of the public and District 4 Assemblymember Maxwell Sumner spoke against the ordinance at the hearing.
As currently written, all the lots would need to have been contiguous and no fewer than five acres in size. At least two-thirds of the property owners would have had to agree to the new large-lot district designation.
Planning Commission members spoke about the proposed regulation being similar to codifying homeowner association rules and allowing neighbors to dictate what individuals do with their land.
The Commission instead approved a new resolution outlining the reasons for not moving forward with the proposed large-lot district ordinance. That approved resolution will be sent to the Borough Assembly for their review.
