Poor Road Conditions in Trapper Creek

State transportation crews began regrading parts of Susitna River Road and Bradley Road in Trapper Creek on Tuesday due to poor road conditions. Rain cut the work short, but the head of the Department of Transportation said crews will revisit it once the roads dry out.

Through an aide, Transportation Commissioner Ryan Anderson said in an email that he learned on Thursday about a local resident’s report about the poor state of the roads. Separately, state Representative Kevin McCabe also sent a letter dated Sept. 14 to the department about the road conditions. 

In his letter, McCabe says residents reported that neither road had seen a grader or other significant repair in a long time, and that it’s nearly impassable driving faster than 10 miles per hour. 

Anderson said that the roads were already on maintenance crews’ lists.

Since both Susitna River Road and Bradley Road are mostly made of gravel, Anderson said, they are maintained by grading and the frequency of repairs depends on equipment availability, as well as what the nature of the other work in the area requires.
