The fire was initially reported last Monday by Talkeetna Flight Services. Mat-Su firefighters and tankers were dispatched to fight the fire shortly after it was reported. The initial size of the blaze was reported between three and five acres, but it was reportedly moving toward multiple cabins as well as Stephan Lake Lodge.
As of Sunday, thirty-four firefighters were still working on mopping up the Prairie Creek fire. A drone equipped with an infrared camera is being used to help crews find and extinguish hot spots.
No large fires are burning in the Northern Susitna Valley as of Monday, according to the Alaska Interagency Control Center. The interagency fire information hotline is 907-356-5511.
