The race for House District 10 could be one of the more expensive ones in the state, if current fundraising trends hold.
As of the last report from the Alaska Public Offices Commission, the two Republican candidates on the ballot for the August 18th primary have combined for more than $100,000 in fundraising.
Current Mat-Su Borough Assembly Member Jesse Sumner is ahead of incumbent Representative David Eastman by more than a factor of three. The majority of Sumner’s $81,000 war chest comes from his own pocket, however. About three-quarter’s of the campaign’s funds have been provided by the candidate, himself, according to state records. Representative Eastman has raised about $25,000 for his re-election campaign thus far.
Candidates and their campaigns may not be the only source of funding in the race, however. The Alaska Landmine, a political blog run by commentator and Alaska Senate candidate Jeff Landfield, shows a photo of a flyer supporting Eastman paid for by a group called “Make Liberty Win Alaska” based out of Alexandria, Virginia.
Northern Valley voters will have a chance to hear from both candidates before the August 18th, primary. Representative David Eastman appeared on Su Valley Voice last Thursday. The recording of that show is available at KTNA.org. Assembly Member Sumner is scheduled to be on Su Valley Voice next Thursday.
