Propositions on ballot in November

There are 3 propositions appearing on the ballot in front of voters this November.

Ballot proposition A asks about state-guaranteed veterans’ residential mortgage bonds.  It asks if the state of Alaska should unconditionally guarantee, as a general obligation of the state, the payment of principal and interest on revenue bonds of the AHRC issued in the principal amount of not more than $600 million for the purpose of purchasing mortgages for qualifying veterans.

Bonding Proposition 2 asks if the state of Alaska should issue its general obligation bonds in the principal amount of not more than $397 million for the purpose of design and construction of library, education and educational research facilities. Projects range from UAF lab facilities, to an aquatic facility at Mount Edgecumbe school, to school replacements on the lower Kuskokwim.

Measure 1 asks if residents want to increase the number of legislators in the Alaska legislature from 60 to 66.  The Senate would go from 20 to 22 and the House would expand from 40 to 44 representatives.   Redistricting would occur based on the 2010 US Census.

The upper valley Senate candidate, Charlie Huggins and the House candidate, Mark Neuman, don’t have challengers in the November election. Neuman handily beat his Republican challenger in the primary election in August.
