Quakes rattle upper Su Valley

Corrections have been made to the reports of the earthquake that hit southcentral Alaska yesterday.  The preliminary magnitude was measured at 5.72 and was changed to 5.4.  The depth was originally thought to be shallow, around 9 miles deep and was changed to 33 miles deep.  The quake was centered 33 miles southwest of Talkeetna and 17 miles east of Skwentna.

KTNA received reports of damage in Houston and Skwentna. One man in Houston said the quake was strong enough to produce large cracks in his drywall.  There have been no reports of personal injury.

There was a series of 10 smaller quakes after the large one at 11:28.  The largest of those was measured a 4.0 and were all centered close to Skwentna.  Another quake hit near the Skwentna area this morning at 6:27.  The quake had a magnitude of 4.1 and was about 33 miles deep.  It was 16 miles east of Skwentna.  People in Talkeetna and Willow reported feeling the quake.

There was a quake yesterday about 96 miles southwest of Adak that measured 5.38. The quake was centered in the Andreanof islands.
