The dormant Susitna Basin Recreation Rivers Advisory Board (SBRRAB) is being reactivated to review the Susitna Basin Recreation Rivers Management Plan.
The Little Susitna, the Deshka, the Talkeetna River, Lake Creek and Alexander Creek are the six river corridors addressed in the 30-year-old plan.
The Susitna Basin Recreational Rivers Plan was developed and adopted in 1991 to manage the high use on these waters. The plan considers public access, recreation and commercial use, and works to minimize conflicts between user groups.
In November, Governor Mike Dunleavey appointed a new 13 member board to review and possible revise the 30-year-old plan.
Talkeetna members, Aaron Benjamin and Israel Mahay, have been appointed to serve on the board, along with Yelverton “Jody” Payton of Willow. They will join residents of the lower Borough, Eagle River, Alexander Creek and Anchorage, each appointee representing a different user group.
The newly created board will meet virtually on December 20th. There is a link to the meeting on the State of Alaska’s website.
