Redoubt dialed down to Orange

The Alaska Volcano Observatory lowered the aviation code to Orange this afternoon. After 3 days without an explosion, the level is now at Watch instead of Warning.

AVO states that small, shallow repeating volcanic earthquakes have been occurring over the past 24 hours.  The quakes are indicative of lava dome growth.

The dome is typical of an eruption cycle.  It is also typical for a dome to become unstable and break apart,  being accompanied by release of ash high into the atmosphere.  After the collapse, the dome can build up again.  The cycle starts over and can be expected to occur for months. 

The volcano is still emitting a small stream of ash and dust, which is expected to continue.
