Teams began crossing the finish line of the Willow 300 on Wednesday morning.
Will Rhodes was the first to complete the race at Sheep Creek lodge early Wednesday, followed shortly after by Nic Petit, who has won the race multiple times. Riley Dyche finished in third place, followed by four-time Iditarod Champion Jeff King.
As of late Wednesday afternoon, ten teams had finished the Willow 300. There were a handful of mushers who scratched, including Talkeetna’s Anja Radano.
Dwayne Beals also scratched from the race. Some race spectators watched helplessly from a distance as Beals headed the wrong direction for many hours after leaving a checkpoint early in the race. In social media posts on Wednesday, Beals took the mistake in stride.
The Willow 300 Facebook page is posting updates as the race continues.
