Rogers Trial in Anchorage begins

The Anchorage trial of Christoper Erin Rogers Junior began Tuesday with jury selection.

In December, Rogers was found guilty of murder in Palmer Superior Court.  He was accused of attacking his father and his father’s financee, Lennie Moren of Talkeetna, in their Palmer home last year.  Rogers fled the home after the attack and drove to Anchorage.

This trial focuses on crimes he is accused of in Anchorage.

He is charged with murder, attempted murder, assault, robbery, theft and weapons misconduct.  Prosecutors might have a difficult time finding people who are not familiar with the case.

According to police reports, Rogers drove from Palmer to Anchorage after attacking his family and bumped into, and shot, Jason Wenger, a graduate student at UAA.  He then made his way downtown where he shot 33-year-old Liz Rumsey,  Talkeetna’s Wilderness Woman contest winner that year.  The next morning, he attacked another man and stole his vehicle. 

Jury selection continues today and is expected to continue through next week.
