RSA Board Decision Delayed Again

A decision on an ordinance that would have increased the required number of members on each road service area board was delayed again. 

The road service area boards, or RSAs, provide recommendations to the Mat-Su Borough’s supervisors about which roads are most critically important for maintenance and major repairs. And those recommendations are based on input from the community.

Proposed by District 7 Assemblymember Ron Bernier, the ordinance would require five members for each RSA board. The ordinance would only apply to RSA boards in District 7. There currently are three members per RSA board, except in Big Lake. 

District 6 Assemblymember Dmitri Fonov proposed an amendment to the ordinance that the five-member requirement only be applied to the Meadow Lakes RSA board.

Since the last meeting, Bernier has only nominated more residents to fill out that board to reach the proposed five-member requirement. He did not nominate members for any other District 7 RSA boards. Fonov’s amendment would strike out the references to the Caswell, Greater Willow, Gold Trail, Greater Talkeetna, and Trapper Creek RSAs.

The Assembly will revisit the ordinance and amendment at their April 1st meeting.
