Rural energy conference to be held in Fairbanks

A conference tackling rural energy issues is set for next month in Fairbanks. The Alaska Rural Energy Conference is going to take place from April 27 through 29. The theme is “New Energy for Sustainable Communities” and the ambitious agenda lists topics like innovation and change in energy use, energy management and how rural communities can plan to meet their energy needs in the future.  High profile speakers lined up for the event are Governor Sean Parnell, Alaska Energy Authority director Steve Haagenson and the federal co-chair of the Denali Commission Joel Neimeyer as well as state legislators to give a legislative update on the state’s energy policy.

The event is slated to take place in the Westmark Hotel in Fairbanks. The deadline to register for the conference is April 23. The conference is sponsored by the Alaska Energy Authority, the Alaska Center for Energy and Power at the University of Fairbanks and the Denali Commission, among others.
