School rejects NANA custodial contract

At their regular meeting last week, the Mat Su Borough School Board rejected the NANA Management Service bid for cleaning schools.
A number of people testified at the meeting about their concern with district and hiring NANA employees.
Three years ago, the district decided to go with NANA management services instead of hiring their own employees. Many custodians lost their jobs.
The district is beginning the process of hiring custodians to clean schools this week. NANA management and the school district are working for a smooth transition. Catherine Esray, school district spokeswoman, said that there will generally be the same amount of jobs filled that NANA employed. She said it is an open employment application process and that neither NANA employees or past district employees will have preference. She wasn’t able to say exactly how long it would be before all custodial positions would be filled
