The search for 22 year old Jacob Larson has officially been suspended indefinitely, according to Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters.
Larson, along with a number of others, jumped into the Talkeetna River from the Railroad trestle on Sunday. His friends made it safely to shore and watched, as Larson was unable to swim back to shore and drifted down the glacially fed river and soon merged with the Susitna River.
A search was launched which involved several agencies and local volunteers. Although National Park Service, State Troopers, Mahay’s Riverboat Service, Talkeetna Aero and others searched for signs of Larson, no trace of Larson has been spotted. Troopers made the decision Tuesday evening that recovery of the body at the high water stage of the river at this time would be unlikely.
Larson’s father, Scott Larson, has sent out his thanks to all the Susitna Valley people involved with the search.
The Troopers add that there were no other deaths or presumed deaths over the weekend in Talkeetna related to the river and the Festival.
