Seven non-profits get funds from Jessica Stevens Community Foundation

The Jessica Stevens Community Foundation this week awarded seven local non-profit organizations with a total of $5,000 in grants. The foundation’s Healthy Community program paid out $1,000 each for the Build-A-Plane program and the Sunshine Transit. The Upper Susitna Soil and Water Conservation District receives $750 to support the Youth Conservation Corp program. The Sunshine Community Health Center gets $750 to conduct a Trapper Creek community health needs assessment. The Talkeetna Parent Teacher Association, Fireweed Arts Council and Talkeetna Community Radio are awarded $500.

JSCF board member Joe Page said the Healthy Community grant program is an annual event. The board starts soliciting proposals from qualifying non-profits in May and then awards the funds in July. This year, the foundation received nine proposals and selected seven to be award recipients. Page said it was difficult to make the selection as all proposals were well thought out.

The Alaska Community Foundation manages the Jessica Stevens Community Foundation’s endowment and the investments.
