Also on Wednesday, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an injured hunter in the Heart Mountain area, northwest of Talkeetna. Troopers say Chris Kahahawai of Wasilla was sheep hunting when he fell and suffered a compound fracture to his shoulder. Kahahawai was able to use his satellite phone to contact his family, who then called the troopers. Kahahawai was too injured to leave the area on his own. The 11th Rescue Coordination Center was contacted and responded with an HC-130 airplane and a Pavehawk helicopter. The air rescue team found Chris Kahahawai at around 5:00 pm and were able to transport him to Anchorage for treatment of his injuries.
