Shooting suspect in Trapper Creek killing enters "not guilty" plea

The man accused of murdering Bob Carey and wounding Carey’s wife Verna in a shooting in Trapper Creek on Saturday night was arraigned in court on Monday afternoon. Jeremy Christopher Nelson entered a plea of “not guilty.” Nelson is represented by a public defender.

Bail was set at $750,000 and a court-approved third party custodian. According to jail officials, Nelson has not posted bail and is still at the Mat-Su Pre-trial facility.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigations has taken over the case immediately after the shooting. Troopers responded to a call placed by Verna Carey, 58 after Nelson gunned down her husband Bob, 66, in front of their house at Wolf Trail and shot her in the arm. Nelson was arrested after a six-hour manhunt by a special trooper response team.
