On Tuesday, June 18th, the Talkeetna Volunteer Fire Department and a Division of Forestry fire engine responded to a fire at mile 10.5 of the Talkeetna Spur Road. According to the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center, the fire was reported by Palmer 911. When firefighters arrived, the fire was smoldering with a diameter of approximately forty feet. No structural damage was mentioned in the report.
According to a previous interview with Maggie Rogers conducted by KTNA, the Division of Forestry has dispersed both land and air-based resources throughout the state in order to assist local fire departments in the event of a wildfires in their area of operation. The Forestry engine that responded to Tuesday’s fire has been placed in the Talkeetna area as part of this program. There is not currently a timeline for how long the Division of Forestry resources will remain deployed.
