Snowmachine Trail opens from Big Lake to DSP

A snowmachine trail from Big Lake to the edge of Denali State Park opens March 14^th.

The Susitna Corridor Trail Project, unofficially called the Su Valley winter trail, will be signed, marked, groomed and mapped.  The trail has been years in the making.

The trail system is a combination of Big Lake Area, Trapper Creek Area and Willow Area groomed snowmachine trails, with a number of side trails.  The trails are all on the west side of the Parks Highway.

It is a combined effort of state and local groups working with the statewide group, SnowTRAC.  It is funded by snowmachine registration fees and funding is used for maintenance and development of trails around Alaska.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 14^th, riders leave the trailhead at Big Lake’s North Shore Recreational area AND the milepost 131 turnout on the Parks Highway and meet in the middle at Ron’s Riverboat Lodge at Susitna Landing.  Governor Palin is scheduled to be on hand at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
