Mat-Su Borough Clerk Lonnie McKechnie says many ballots have yet to be counted following the November 5th election.
She says absentee and questioned ballots will be counted next Monday just one day before the Borough Assembly election certification. About 5,500 absentee ballots were issued, which were required to be returned to the Borough by last Friday. Nearly 1,700 questioned ballots still have not been counted.
There are not enough ballots remaining to change the Mayoral outcome, which showed significant favor toward incumbent Edna DeVries (Duh-VREES). But the remaining ballots could change the outcome for the Assembly and School Board seats. District 7’s incumbent Ron Bernier currently leads with 2,581 votes to Sheena Fort’s 1,936.
With about 7,000 votes remaining to be counted for the Borough, the results are still unclear.
